Florida Department of Agriculture LogoFlorida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam has awarded the Osceola School District, along with five other school districts in the state, Farm to School grants to increase the amount of locally-grown products served to children. The department has awarded grants to the following school districts:

$75,000 Grant Award Winners: Osceola, Orange, and Sarasota Counties
• $50,000 Grant Award Winners: Alachua and Marion Counties
• $25,000 Grant Award Winner: Hendry County

Osceola's School Nutrition Services Department, in cooperation with the Community Relations Department, will utilize the Florida Farm to School Grant to develop a videotaped student cooking program to be shared on the district’s website and with the local public access television channels in Osceola County. The purpose of the cooking program will be to promote Florida grown foods and increase students' consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

As part of the Farm to School initiative, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services recognizes school districts that purchase at least 10 percent of the food they serve from local Florida farms. “By connecting Florida schools with local farmers, we are able to teach students where their food comes from while providing them with the nutrition they need for academic success,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam. “These school districts have gone above and beyond to further grow Florida’s Farm to School program.”
