Harmony High French Students Earn First Place In State Competition

First Place Trophy Stock PhotoHarmony High French students earned first place in the state among Division 4A schools at the 65th Annual Congrès de la Culture Française en Floride. Participants took part in various competitions in order to demonstrate their talents. Overall, 20 Superior ribbons and 12 Excellent ribbons were earned by the French Students at Harmony High:

Superior - Saynete – French 1 play: Derby MPetit, Tessa Williams, Stephanie De Leon, Val Petit-Frere, Kacey Walsh, Paige Franson, and Milani Lesdema

Superior - French 1: Derby MPetit- Discours impromptu Speech, Paige Franson-Declamation- Poetry Recitation, Milani Lesdema- Declamation-Poetry Recitation, and Tessa Willimas-Lecture-Reading Comprehension

Superior - French 2: Bryn Hudson-Declamation- Poetry Recitation, Alejandra Mella- Lecture- Reading Comprehension, and Ariana O’Rourke- Lecture reading Comprehension with a perfect score

Superior - French 3: Sophia McKibben- Declamation –Poetry Recitation- Competing one level higher than her actual French level

Superior - French 4: There is not a French 4 course at Harmony- all students competing one or two levels higher than their actual French level: Ryan Boumazzoughe-Causerie- Impromptu Speech- PRIX DU JURY- Best overall, Taylor Jones- Declamation- Poetry Recitation, and Victoria Sharp- Declamation- Poetry Recitation

Superior - French 5: Nomar Baretto- Lecture- Reading Comprehension-second highest score and Lauren Micher- Declamation- Poetry Recitation

Excellent - Piece de Theatre- Advanced Play Performance: Darius Giantsios, Rehema Lubulu, Mariah Sampson, Lauren Micher, and Nomar Baretto

Many of the students who earned a “Bon” rating were competing in French levels much higher than their actual level. Their points were credited to helping the team achieve first place in the state:

Bon - French 4: Mckenzie Eaddy- Lecture- Reading Comprehension and Nanette Disla- Lecture-Reading Comprehension

Bon - French 5: Allie Ashcraft- Lecture- Reading Comprehension

Giovanni Mella won the Teresita Bertot Memorial Scholarship of $500.00, and he served as Vice-President on the student-run State French Executive Board. In addition, Ryan Boumazzoughe earned the prestigious Prix du Jury - Best overall for his impromptu Speech for French level 4.
