SCHS School Safety Week

In February, members of the St. Cloud High Family Career and Community Leader of America held a School Safety Week led by Astrid Rosado.

The goal was to prepare students for emergency situations and encourage them to report if they see something that would be harmful to our students.

Here's what students participated in during the week-long event:

Monday
: The week began with visuals around campus to inform students of the TIPS hotline number.

Tuesday: Resource officer, Russ Ball, came to all of the Family and Consumer Science classes and spoke to the students about the importance of protecting themselves in an emergency situation. He also spoke about the importance of them reporting what they hear going on that could be harmful to our students. With mental health being such an important issue, he also talked about getting students help when they are in need.

Wednesday: Early Childhood Education students received Stop the Bleed training from Michele Rud, a trainer from Osceola Regional Medical Center. Ten of the Stop the Bleed kits were also donated to St. Cloud High which can be used in an emergency where there are injuries.

Thursday: Lissette Burgos and Julie Vega from the Osceola Sheriff's Department provided a self-defense class for the juniors and seniors in Family and Consumer Science classes. This helped them to be more aware of their surroundings and taught them how to protect themselves.

Friday: The Osceola Sheriff's Department was on campus at lunch to talk to students. This helps to build a working relationship between the students and local law enforcement. They also passed out information about classes that are offered.

Overall, the week helped to inform students about the need for them to be an active part in keeping our campus safe, and provided multiple opportunities for them to learn methods to protect themselves and others. Additional training will be provided later in the school year.
