The Osceola County School District wants all children to have a
great start in oral language and vocabulary development.

The Program

Born to Succeed is a countywide Early Literacy initiative for parents, infants, and toddlers in Osceola County. Born to Succeed promotes parent education and helps parents develop essential early literacy skills in their children.

Born to Succeed Components

Gift Bag-Books and resources presented to parents and newborns.

Parent Education- information on early literacy skills, child development, and the nurturing of infants and toddlers.

Parent/ child Playgroups-Structured play groups for parents and children to play and learn together.

What the research says:

Babies need warm, loving, caring interaction with their parents.

Children who are introduced to books and early literacy skills from birth are more likely to succeed when they go to school.

As my child's first and most important teacher, I will:

Talk with my baby using real words (not baby talk) to develop his/her vocabulary.

Talk, sing, and tell nursery rhymes to my baby daily.

Read to my baby for short periods, several times a day (at least a total of 20 minutes).

Talk with my baby in a fun and excited voice as we read together.

Change television time to book time.
